Middle School Hosts Woodmaking Family Event

A middle school family gathers in the cafeteria for the Connect 6 event

South Park Middle School’s work through the grant-funded “Parents as Allies” Kidsburgh project continued in February when the school hosted a special event for sixth-grade students and their families. Families were treated to a pizza party and then participated in a Woodmaking Workshop in the middle school cafeteria. Each student had the opportunity to personalize a wood tray. Family members could assist the sixth graders or make something of their own. The middle school partnered with Graceful Style for the crafting event.

These Connect events give families the chance to connect with teachers, staff, and one another while engaging in a fun, collaborative experience. “Parents as Allies” works to build stronger relationships to improve student success. The middle school established a design team of administrators, teachers, and parents (Dr. Erica Kolat, Lynn Como, Heather Friburger, Mikayla Ridgeway, Amy Stone, and Jessica O’Brien) in order to collaborate and plan opportunities for connecting the school to families. Future events for seventh and eighth graders are in the works.
